In 1987 when the Shoebox racer craze was gathering speed, then editor of Super Stock & Drag Illustrated magazine, Steve Collison, asked me if I could come up with a cartoon-like illustration for a special issue covering the new darlings of drag racing. Actually, the cars didn't yet have a name-sake, so Steve decided to call them, "Prostalgia" cars. A cross between "Pro Stock" and "nostalgia." Make sense to us at the time, but the tag didn't catch on. Since the Thundercraft car was arguably the most popular of the cars in that field, we decided to use the '57 Chevy as the subject of my illustration.
