Bruce Larson, Jim Liberman, Bill Jenkins, and Dave Strickler could be called the Four Horseman from Eastern Pennsylvania. Larson started out with Stock and Super Stock Chevys in the early ‘60 and quickly joined the ranks of the emerging A/FX (funny car) class. Bruce raced Chevys through the complete transformation from Super Stocker - A/FXer, to Funny Car, and later flip-top Funny Car. All along the way, Larson’s Chevy had the “USA-1” brand on the sides.

This was Bruce’s ‘71 Camaro. It was also close to the end of the line for Bruce using a blown big-block Chevy. By ‘71, nearly everyone, even Jungle Jim, had switched to a blown Hemi in order to stay competitive.

Larson would later get out of Funny Car racing after a nasty crash and rent Grumpy Jenkins’ ‘70-1/2 Pro Stock Camaro before getting his own Vega Pro Stocker. But after you’ve driven a AA/Fuel Funny Car it’s tough to be happy going slower. Larson eventually got back into the funny cars and won the World Funny Car Championships in ‘89.

Bruce is a regular attendee at the York US 30 Matchrace Madness Show every summer at the York Fairgrounds, in York, Pennsylvania.
