After the unfortunate crash of the ‘67 Comet “Eliminator,” “Dyno Don” Nicholson was back in action with a new car using a ‘68 Mercury Cougar fiberglass body. Once again, Nicholson was the man to beat. The biggest difference for the ‘68 car was that Don went from an injected SOHC 427 Ford to a blown and injected 427 SOHC Ford. Thanks to the Pete Robinson blower, Dyno’s Cougar ran consistent 7.3s @ 190 mph! Carrying on with his match racing ways, the “Eliminator” Cougar just about put everyone on the trailer in ‘68. The Cougar ended in a fiery crash and that was the end of Don’s nitro-burning drag cars. The following year he was into Pro Stock.
