No one expected the popular 427 big-block Corvette engine to grow! The announcement of the 454/465 horsepower LS-6 engine option screamed, LOOK OUT HEMI MOPARS! But sometimes the best of plans just dont pan out. Due to production and labor reasons, the model year was delayed until the Spring of 70 and the monster Vette engine never made it into any of the production Corvettes.
On paper, the 390 horsepower LS5 looked like a weakling little brother, but priced at only 289.65, it was a performance bargain. A set of headers, a sharp tune, and 4.66 gears and you could have a drag strip terror.
