Chevrolet made a big splash with the introduction of the 1957 283 Corvette engine. Rated at 283 horsepower, it was the first Chevy engine to make one horsepower per cubic-inch! All that for $726.30! The Fuelie was the top gun engine for Corvette buyers until the introduction of the Mark IV 396/375 big-block in 1965. Vintage Fuelie units go for thousands of dollars at Corvette shows today.
