The Chrysler Hemi proved to be the most reliable source of amazing amounts of power for drag racers. Back in the late ‘60s, everyone was stunned to hear that some engine builders were getting reading of over 2000 horsepower on engine dynonometers. Over-driven superchargers and nitro-alcohol fuel mixes seemed very exotic. These powerplants were based on production blocks and heads right from Chrysler!
Of course, today, Top Fuel and Funny Car racers no longer use Chrysler engines, but the basic configuration is the same. The difference is that today, these Chrysler-based designed engines now make over 5000 horsepower!
