Don Garlits turns the drag racing world on its ear in 1971!

Although not the first rear engine dragster not to squirle all over the track, Big Daddy was the first to make a rear engine dragster competitive in Top Fuel racing. Everyone thought Don's long recovery from his accident where his car and foot was sliced in half, had put him over the edge. They laughed at Don when he showed up at his first race with a "rear engine" car. They literally had Don pit his car all the way at the end of the pits!

It turned out that the car was so quick and fast, that within one year, nearly all of the Top Fuel racers switched to the rear engine layout. Once again, Big Daddy Don Garlits was leading the way!
