One day at Atco Raceway I happened upon two slicks off to one side of a funny car. Obviously, someone had just put them there while working on their car, but the arrangement was perfect.
Were it not for advanced tire compounds, drag racers would still be smoking the tires all the way down the track the way they did in the ‘50s and early ‘60s.
I just thought it was an ironic visual that here sits two parts of a racing machine that are so responsible for so much speed.
