Corvette Daydreams - 2000 Phase III Corvette - Print #C5-1
Joel Rosen made his mark in the muscle car world in 1968 with his Phase III Chevrolet Supercars. Rosen struck up a deal with Baldwin Chevrolet, in Baldwin, New York, to build modified versions of brand new Chevys. The Phase III package was a turn key operation for anyone who wanted a Chevy high performance street machine that was distinctive and different from the regular Chevy muscle cars.
The Phase III Corvette looked as awesome as it ran. Rosen added the 1967 big-block hood scoop on top of the standard 427 hood dome, 1965-67-style Corvette side-mounted exhausts, a hood-mounted tachometer, and stripes that wrapped around the tail end, up and over into the hood scoop, Cragar Mags, and fat tires. Under the hood, everything was upgraded and strengthened to withstand the 550+horsepower 427 engine.
Perhaps the two most outrageous parts of the car was the fact that Baldwin Chevrolet stood by the standard Chevrolet warrantee and that Rosen personally guaranteed that the car would run at least 12.50et on the quarter mile! The Baldwin-Motion Phase III Supercars were the forerunner to todays Mallet and Callaway cars.
Rosen got out of the supercar biz in the early 70s after the government began to crack down on aftermarket car builders. There is no C5 Phase III Corvette, but if there was, this is what it might look like.
Hey Joel, if you built it... they WILL buy!
