By the early 60s, Corvette stylists were really good at building show cars. The Mako Shark I was a market research tool used to see what kind of reaction the public had over the new direction the Bill Mitchell wanted to take the Corvette for the cars first complete redesign. Using the lines from the Sting Ray Racer and the Q-Corvette, the car was a solid home run! Its design elements are an interesting. It had the windshield and A-pillar of a 61 Corvette, yet it looked like the Sting Ray Racer. Mitchell loved fast LOUD cars. This was the first of many Corvette show cars that had classic Mitchell side-pipes.
