Illustration Background:

After completing the Reher & Morrison technical illustration for Super stock Magazine, I made several copies and sent one to the editor at Popular Hot Rodding, along with an outline for a series of tech illustrations that would cover a Eddie Hill’s Top Fueler, Tom McEwen’s ‘57 Chevy Funny Car, and Pro Stocker (I forget who I suggested).

The editor called me and said, “Cool idea, but McEwen has had plenty of ink lately, lets do Jim Bryant’s Thundercraft ‘57 Chevy. Well, I’m easy. I said, “Sure!” With some photographic help from Jim Bryant, I created the Thundercraft technical illustration shown above.

But, the story isn’t over yet. One day, I had a phone call from Norman Washington, the “Oil Man.”
